If I have a cake mix can I put Hershey's Chocolate Syrup in it to make it become chocolate flavored?

My cake mix is flavored Rainbow Party Mix, I want it to become chocolate flavored. Can I put Chocolate Syrup in it or should i put Cocoa powder in it instead?
