What are the advantages and disadvantages of affirmative action in America?

It gives people who may be discriminated against a chance for opportunity. It can discriminate against the majority perhaps by making it a bit more unrealistic qualifications for the same position. Like all government ideas stars out well intended but with all the bureaucracy they loose their way and it is never cared for properly. I feel it has been better to have it than not. I am not a minority but it must be tuff at times. The only thing the government can do most excellent is to kill people in war , which is bad we have to, but good we can, when we need to. I'd rather be on top of the hill instead of trying to get there.
