Does it cost more to make ethanol or gasoline ?

That's a trick question. The way things are done now, ethanol can be sustained but gasoline will end up getting depleted. The way things are now, gasoline is cheaper for that very reason. If gasoline were made in a sustainable way, it would be very expensive. That's why you've never heard of anyone propose that we keep using gasoline after we've run out of oil.
